Shalom (SÁR) is an afro surrealist artist/designer experimenting with the arts. The artist uses surrealism as a tool to communicate visual stories from a black and afropolitan perspective. Shalom takes inspiration from pop culture and indigenous African art.
Paintings by Shalom predominantly have black surrealist subject matters with themes of death, drugs, depression, love and pop culture. Shalom works with digital and traditional mediums. Working with a muted colour palette complimented by saturated reds, yellows and blues, Shalom uses paintings to tell visual stories.
Shalom draws inspiration from artists like James Ensor, Francis Bacon, Paul Gaugin, Basquiat & Murakami.
